Just got around to putting it on 8tracks.
An FST for Saiyuki focusing on our band of "heroes" the Sanzo Ikkou. It's mostly punk/ new wave, with a little rap and a Queen song tossed in, but I suppose it works for the Boys.
Saiyuki is an amped up retelling of the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West ,
Once upon a time, a small golden-eyed creature was taken to the Upper World
1. Monkey Gone to Heaven - The Pixies
the creature in the sky/ got sucked in a hole/ now there's a hole in the sky
There he met Konzen, who gave him the name Goku, which means Perceives the Void, but also means, Knows Nothing.
2. Why Does the Sun Shine? (the Sun is a Mass of Incandescent Gas) - They Might Be Giants
But here on Earth there'd be no life/ Without the light it gives
But in Heaven, all was not as it seemed, and Konzen, along with Tenpou and Kenren, came to understand that something terrible was happening.
3. Everybody Knows - Leonard Cohen
Everybody knows the good guys lost
While in Heaven, Goku had made another friend named Nataku, who, when ordered to kill Goku, turned his sword upon himself.
4. I Don't Want to Live this Life (Anymore) - The Ramones
I keep searching for an answer, but, it just ain't there
But the results were tragic, and Goku transformed into Seiten Taisei. In an effort to save him; Konzen, Tenpou, and Kenren were punished with reincarnation. But Goku, had another fate, and he was imprisoned on a mountain top for 500 years.
5. Fall Down - The Boomtown Rats
I need to scream every now and again/ Try to understand it's only me
500 years later, two priests make a bet.
6. Caged Bird Know Why Sings - Atmosphere
She thinks shes better than me just because she's free.
Priest Koumyou Sanzo died, and his successor, Genjo Sanzo (a reborn Konzen) grew up, found his way, and eventually found Goku. Despite not needing anyone.
7. I Am a Rock - Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies
If I never loved I never would have cried
Gonou (who was once Tenpou) was an orphan, who found and fell in love with his twin sister, and for her committed genocide, to save her. When she died anyway, he wanted nothing more than to join her, but he was denied that, instead he became, a changed man.
8. Sinnerman - Extra Fancy
Ran to the Devil/ Devil was a-waiting
The sinner's life was saved by a scoundrel named Gojyo (formerly Kenren). Then the sinner died, and the scoundrel got a roommate named Hakkai.
9. Add it Up - The Violent Femmes
I guess it's something to do with luck
Three years, and a few small incidents later, the Boys receive the Call to Adventure.
10. Sleeping in my Car - SFH
The night is so pretty and so young /So very young...
They met an old acquaintance of Sanzo's, a priest who had lost his way, and Goku almost lost his sun.
11. Roshambo - The Network
All I really believe in is you
Soon after they were confronted by a dead man from Hakkai's past who wanted to unleash the demon within him.
12. Way I Am - Eminem
I don't care who is there and who saw me destroy you
Later, in the desert, our heroes almost meet disaster again, but they prevail.
13. Kings of the Wild Frontier - Adam and the Ants
"No method in our madness/ Just pride about our manner
They met god, and were defeated, barely escaping with their lives, but they learned that winning is easy if you're willing to win, and so they went off to kill a god.
14. The Show Must Go On - Queen
I'll face it with a grin/ I'm never giving in/ On - with the show -
Forced to hide their identities, lest people think they are heroes, they are discovered when they have to act according to their nature.
15. The Idiots are Taking Over - NOFX
It's not the right time to be sober
In the mountains, they discover just how deep fear and prejudice run, and they understand that the quest they are on may change nothing, but that it still must be completed if there is to be any hope.
16. Guns of Brixton - The Clash
When they kick at your front door/ How you gonna come?/ With your hands on your head/ Or on the trigger of your gun
They meet themselves on the road, but since they are not who they were yesterday, the past is easy to kill.
17. Problems - The Sex Pistols
There's something wrong with you/ But what do you expect me to do?
When they encounter a priest with the ablity to raise the dead, they know that for life to have meaning, it can only be lived once, and that to its fullest.
18. Keasby Nights - Catch 22
Singing "my, my, my, how the time does fly, when you know you're going to die by the end of the night."
Despite everything they continue heading west.
19. On the Road Again - Venerea
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
And no matter the ending, they are only in it for themselves and the only side they are on is their own.
20. The End of the World As We Know it (and I Feel Fine) REM
Time I had some time alone.
